The Expendables (2010)

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

When I first heard about the upcoming movie, “The Expendables”, my first thought was “Hoooolllyyyyyy crap!”. Being an 80’s kid, I naturally grew up on healthy diet of 80’s action movies, including Rocky, The Terminator, Die Hard etc etc, and this film seems to have an unbelieveable cast with nearly every 80’s action star and more at least making a cameo appearance in the film! Don’t believe me? Check out some of the cast…

- Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Rambo)
- Dolph Lundgren (Red Scorpion, Universal Soldier)
- Eric Roberts (Best of the Best)
- Mickey Rourke (recently Domino, the Wrestler)
- Bruce Willis (Die Hard)
- Arnold Schwarzenegger (Terminator, Predator)

Some newer faces include:

- Jason Statham (The Transporter, The One)
- Jet Li (Romeo Must Die, Unleashed)
- Steve Austin (WWF wrestler)
- Randy Couture (Prolific MMA fighter, Redbelt)

Unbelieveable right? It’s interesting reading the comments on YouTube and a number of other forums, where some people are saying that this will be the best film in the world even if it’s rubbish! Here are some of my favourite comments:

“Chuck Norris isn’t in this because they knew that if they put him in:
1. Every boy that watched this movie would be turned into a grown man instantly
2. Every man that watched this would explode from an overkill of pure manliness
3. Every female that watched this would be turned into a man
4. Riots would break out from every (real) man in the world flooding every theater this movie played in.
5. Forget the Gayon collider in europe, THIS would have made a black hole on earth.”

And…

“Let me just say, this is cinema history, f**king amazing to see sly, arnold and bruce willis together in a movie , even if its just for one scene , who cares, its f**king legendary, also great is that a we can see dolph lundgren and sly in the same movie once more, and that is cool in my opinion, apart from that the rest of the cast is also insane, austin, statham, lee, couture, roberts, rourke…”

There are of course some other famous 80’s action stars that aren’t in the film, and these are the most popular missing actors based on the forum discussions:

- Chuck Norris
- Jean Claude Van Damme
- Mel Gibson
- Steven Seagal
- Kurt Russell
- Wesley Snipes

It is believed however that Steven Seagal, Jean Claude Van Damme and Kurt Russell were all offered parts written specifically for them, but for one reason or another they turned them down. What a crying shame!?

The film itself looks pretty damn good! It is due for release in the UK on September 2010. My advice, keep you’re entire month free for this date, as this film is cinema history!!!

Iron Man 2 film trailer

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Being a huge fan of the first Iron Man film, when I was told today that not only are they making a second installment but that the film trailer is already out, I nearly soiled myself! Iron Man is one of my favourite super hero films because it doesn’t take itself too seriously, has great action, is full of gadgets & fast cars and the character of Tony Stark is played perfectly by Robert Downey Jr (although I imagine that this is how he is in real life, so it should be quite an easy part for him to play!?).

Although I was unsure about the trailer for this film (I wasn’t keen on the idea of their being lots of “Iron Men”) it features an all star cast, including Mickey Rourke as the main protaganist (as Whiplash), Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury (really, who else could play this part!?), Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow and many more. The film also includes many from the original cast including Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and there is also another famous cameo by Stan Lee (the original creator of many of the Marvel comics characters). Stan Lee has a cameo in nearly all of his films, including the last Iron Man film he played a Hugh Heffner style character.

The release date for this film is 30th April 2010 and I can’t wait. As I said, I was unsure about the film when I saw the trailer but there are a lot of very cool looking scenes in it, and I’m sure it will live up to expectations as the first film was just sooo good!

Tekken movie trailer

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Having been a big fan of Namco’s Tekken franchise since the release of the very first Tekken game on the playstation one (or psx as I hear all the cool kids calling it!), you would think that this movie is something that I would be looking forward to with to. Well you would be wrong. I really can’t think of a single movie adaption of a computer game that I liked, but I can think of plenty that I have just plain hated! Previous films of a similar nature include Street Fighter (starring Jean Claude Van Damme) and Mortal Kombat. Street fighter was so bad it became amusing, whereas Mortal Kombat was more tongue in cheek but ultimately it was never going to win an award!

So why don’t computer games convert well into films? Well in a lot of cases it’s the fault of the directors, lack of budget, and just terrible scripts! Also, just because a computer game is awesome, doesn’t mean that it’s going to make a great film, especially in the case of fighting games which have a very limited plot anyway. Tekken in particular has such a weird set of storylines that I really don’t know what’s going on sometimes!

Watching this Tekken trailer, I cringed, I laughed out loud, I cried, and then… finally… I died a little inside. It just looks truely awful. The costumes although staying true to the game look ridiculous, the effects look similar to a budget sci fi movie from the 80’s, and the story line… is there one? Again the casting even seems quite good with recognisable characters, but the film just looks BAD. It hasn’t learnt the important lessons from previous game to movie films and I fear a lot of loyal fans will be disappointed, and this could be close to being a straight to DVD movie. But hey, that’s just my opinion. Maybe some of you will watch this and go “whoooaaaa, that looks awesome”. But I doubt it.

Thinking about it, there is one game to movie film that I liked but it was the manga version of street fighter. Maybe if Tekken was a computer animated film then a lot of the issues with costumes, budgets etc wouldn’t be a problem, and maybe you could make a half decent adaption?

Tekken is due for release later this year in summer 2010.

The Crazies trailer HD

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

This Crazies looks like the kind of film that I love, and that torment my wife! In this trailer it looks as though something is making the residents of a small town go “crazy” in a style that is very reminiscent of a zombie style movie much like George Romero living dead series of films. These films always start off with small ominous events that eventually amount into an apocolyptic disaster. Not only do I find these films thoroughly entertaining to watch, but the scare factor (usually limited to scenes that make you jump!) is doubled for my wife as I grab her on the leg at the key minutes to terrify her further!

Much like the zombie movies that are normally caused by a virus of unknown origin, the inhabitants of this small Pennsylvania town are victims of a secret biological weapon that gets into their water supply following a plane crash. As the film isn’t strictly speaking a zombie movie (although it seems to have some amazing similarities!) it opens up a lot of potential for extra creepy scenes! I can’t wait to see it.

** UPDATE ** Thanks to Matt who just pointed out that the film is actually a remake of a 1973 film by George Romero (which explains a lot!). The film stars Timothy Olyphant (recently in Hitman) and Radha Mitchell (Surrogates, Silent Hill) and is directed by Breck Eisner (Sahara). The film is released in the cinemas on the 26th February in the UK.

Alice In Wonderland Film Trailer

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

At shit clips we are big fans of Tim Burton films and Alice in wonderland looks to be as big and exciting as his other releases. We have decided to share the newest film trailers to our site and as we are so excited about Alice in Wonderland and can’t wait for it to be released we decided to post it as our first trailer in this section.

The new film looks dark and quirky with a little bit of humour, much like other Tim Burton classics and features Tim Burtons wife Helena Bownem Carter and his favourite actor (and mine) Mr Johnny Depp. Helena plays the queen of hearts in an unflattering role whilst Johnny Depp is the Mad Hatter and well suited to the role.

We can’t wait for the film and this little taster looks pretty exciting let us know what you think by rating it!
