Why to keep dogs on a leash on 4th July

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

During the Christmas period we set off a few fireworks to celebrate, and one of our dogs scared the hell out of me when it escaped from our house and ran over to the live fireworks and started barking (trying to protect us from invaders to our home!). Thankfully it was all bravado, and although she barked at the fireworks and did a few pretend lunges towards it, she never actually got closer than a few feet away. Afterwards once we realised everyone was safe and our dog hadn’t set on fire, it was actually quite amusing and it reminded me of this funny video with another canine friend!

This video features a dog on the 4th July picking up a live firework, and then running around while it’s still live, narrowly avoiding the terrorised family around it. Once old fellow only just jumps out of the way of the firework as it shoots out from the side of the dogs mouth! My favourite bit about this video is the women shrieking in the background at the end – I know it’s bad, but it really tickles me. As usual the dog has absolutely no idea about the havoc it’s caused and do doubt believes it has also saved it’s family from danger!

Puppy vs Robot

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I found this video while looking for the “Puppy vs Aibo” clip (Aibo is a robotic dog from Japan with good AI) and thought it deseved an add! In this video a puppy is trying to assert territorial dominance over a WowWee roboquad robot, which has been set to ‘autonomous mode’ with it’s agression levels set to high (this means it is acting on it’s own with no human control). The video is very entertaining as in true puppy fashion, it barks and leaps forward at the robot until it is scared by flashing lights or sudden movement! It is made even funnier by the fact the author of the video has edited it into an “epic battle” with retro computer game sound effects, scores and slow motion replays! In the epic battle for territorial dominance, who will come out on top – Puppy? or Robot?
