How NOT to tow a car out of the snow

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

I thought I would add a seasonal video to the site today in light of all the snow and ice we have been having here in the UK. I spent over an hour clearing the snow and ice off my drive the other day in order to avoid something like what happens in this video! I was going to put this in the cars category initially, but then I remembered that we setup a stupidity category especially for videos such as this!

The video features a group of guys trying to get a car out of very deep snow. How they got it into that situation is probably another story! They decide that instead of trying to dig it out, they are going to tow it out by attaching some cable to the back of the car and a pickup truck. This doesn’t initially sound like a bad idea, however they attach the cable to the cars bumper and pull it at a strange angle instead of a straight line. As they start to pull the car out of the snow, the bumper cracks (most modern cars use plastic for the bumpers, skirting and body kit) under the force! Most people would probably stop at this point, realising that this isn’t the best solution. However, they carry on and end up ripping off the whole back end of the car!

Now that kids, is how NOT to tow a car out of the snow.

Swiss ball jump fail

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

This is a great video, definitely worthy of our ever growing stupidity category! The star of the show is a teenage girl talking about how she is going to perform this radical jump, by jumping onto a small swiss ball. I genuinely believe she that she really is expecting to bounce straight up into the air after bouncing on the ball, but predictably (and entertainingly!) she performs an awesome face plant! To add to the humiliation of it all, the impact seems to make her vomit – something that has lead to a lot of discussion on the YouTube page with the video gaining over 2,000,000 views and and nearly 10,000 comments. Excellent. Proof once again that if you do something stupid on camera, everyone is going to find out about it!

Thanks to James for emailing this one to us, which originally came from failblog.org as part of their fail series of videos!

Jack Bauer’s Interrogates Santa Clause

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Getting into the Christmas Spirit we’ve found this video of 24’s Jack Bauer (Keifer Sutherland) interrogating Santa Clause for his unathorised ‘flying wihtout a passport’ etc. The series, 24 is a popular US drama as Keifer Sutherland plays the hero, Jack Bauer, who has to save America from terrorism in 24 hours. The unique thing about this series as they actually show 24 episodes of around 50 mins to make up the 24 hours.

24 can be a bit unbelievable as Jack Bauer has died for a few minutes then come back to beat up the bad guy, but it is a great watch. This was recommended through Twitter and I thought it had to go on as it shows Jack beating up Santa Clause to get him to talk.

You can imagine that Santa obviously put Jack on the naughty list after this.

X Factor Sing Rage Against The Machine!!

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

This is hilarious! In the spirit of Christmas… well the Christmas number one spot, X Factor winner Joe Mclderry and Rage Against The Machine are competing for this years Christmas number one. X factor has had this spot for the past 5 years and a facebook group have gotten so sick of it they have decided to launch a campaign to get Rage Against The Machines “Killing in the name of” to number one instead.

Simon Cowell has called this a grudge against him, but the top spot doesn’t go to X factor by default it should be earned and at the moment Rage against the Machine’s Killing in the name of it top of the iTunes Charts (Wednesday 16th December).

To take the piss out of all of this someone has morphed Rage Against The Machine’s mouth on the X factor finalists video to make it look like they are singing killing in the name of. I think this is so funny, if Simon had a sense of humour he should have done it himself!

RuBot II – A Rubik’s cube solving robot

Monday, December 14th, 2009

I have always loved robots – ever since I first saw the 6 million dollar man I liked the idea of robotics and cybernetics, and then when I saw the Terminator films as I got older they changed my life! Watching this robot video has confirmed that the Terminator perhaps isn’t as far away as we thought! Okay, it’s not exactly Honda’s Asimo but it’s a clever and certainly very creepy robot that can complete the task of solving a Rubik’s cube in an average of 35 seconds (the fastest being 26 seconds, the slowest 45 seconds). This time could be considerably improved if the technology used for the robots fingers was more sophisticated, and he would need to do this in order to compete with the fastest ever human time of 7.08 seconds!!! WOW! The engineer behind this robot built a colour recognition system for his BEng, which he then extended to a machine that could solve Rubik’s cubes for his MEng. The robot we have seen in this video clip is actually version 2 (hence the name Rubot II), which holds the Guinness World Record as the fastest robot to solve a Rubik’s cube.

Puppy vs Robot

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

I found this video while looking for the “Puppy vs Aibo” clip (Aibo is a robotic dog from Japan with good AI) and thought it deseved an add! In this video a puppy is trying to assert territorial dominance over a WowWee roboquad robot, which has been set to ‘autonomous mode’ with it’s agression levels set to high (this means it is acting on it’s own with no human control). The video is very entertaining as in true puppy fashion, it barks and leaps forward at the robot until it is scared by flashing lights or sudden movement! It is made even funnier by the fact the author of the video has edited it into an “epic battle” with retro computer game sound effects, scores and slow motion replays! In the epic battle for territorial dominance, who will come out on top – Puppy? or Robot?

Family guy – Peanut butter jelly time

Saturday, December 12th, 2009

I wasn’t sure if I should put this in the music video category, but I know that a full 3 minute music video has been made to honour this! Maybe we should add this on at somepoint? This is a clip from Family Guy Season 4 Episode 16, where Brian (the dog!) tries to cheer up Peter by dressing up as a large banana, getting out some maracas, and singing “It’s Peanut Butter Jelly Time”. My friend pointed this video out to me a while ago when I first discovered the true delights of peanut butter jelly sandwiches (they become quite addictive!) or we Brits call them, peanut butter and jam! I thought the video was very funny, but what amazed me was that it had nearly 5 million views and they was so many tribute videos on YouTube where people had dressed up as bananas and were singing the song. Bravo!

Tyson Fury punches himself in the face

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Now this is something you don’t see every day! Professional heavyweight fighter and up and coming British prospect Tyson Fury (excellent name for a boxer!) punches himself in the face! Now before you ask, yes, it’s not on purpose, it was an accident! This boxing video is of his fight with boxing veteran Lee Swaby, and Tyson Fury throws an uppercut which rebounds of Lee’s gloves and he hits himself pretty square on in the face. His punches are very fast so I don’t think many people ringside will have noticed it, but watching the slow motion replay there’s no escape! It’s lucky he’s not a bigger puncher or we could be posting a video of the first boxer to knock himself out with a punch! I’m sure the other heavyweight prospects were thrilled to see this.

Cruel Japanese TV Sniper Prank

Friday, December 11th, 2009

This reasonably funny video perfectly demonstrates the difference between American/European TV and Japanese TV. If you tried any of these pranks in America I can guarantee that there would be huge lawsuits for physical and emotional damage as a result! In this particular video, it appears as though a Japanese man is interviewing some agents maybe, as they are all armed, when a sniper suddenly starts shooting them through the window. You can see by the reaction in the man’s face that he is genuinely terrified by the situation, and as one of the agents dies on top of him after being shot in the back, he makes a run for it and commando crawls to the exit. When he gets there the door is locked, and he curls up into an almost fetal like position no doubt progressing into a deeper state of shock! But, it doesn’t end there! Next 2 men burst through the room with flak jackets and firearms, and initially I thought they were faking a rescue, but I think they continue to torment him for a further minute! During the whole video there is a little headshot camera in the bottom right of the man being pranked, seemingly in a studio watching this being played back for the first time. He seems happy enough about it now, and I’m sure that this is just an average TV show in Japan!

Banana Rap song

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I don’t know if we can actually class this as a music video, perhaps we need another category called ’so bad it’s funny’? I could think of a lot of funny videos that could go in that section! This is another suggestion from Lozzy (keep em coming!) and the star of the show is a ‘rapping banana’. Despite being truly awful, the video has been created by a website called animatephotos.com, and I think that this was most likely a viral video used to promote their site or software. I’m glad that there is a reason for this video, and it wasn’t created purely because someone thought it would be awesome.
